Despite being a physical freak of nature, several NFL teams unexpectedly overlooked and passed up on wide receiver DK Metcalf back in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Seattle Seahawks were not a team to neglect potential and became firm believers in the capabilities of the Ole Miss standout since day one.
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had high praises for the sophomore wideout after their opening game of the season:
“He’s one of the best receivers in the game,” Wilson told PFT by phone after Sunday’s 38-point outburst against the Falcons. “He’s like a 10-year veteran Pro Bowler.”
Metcalf picked up where he left off from his rookie campaign with the Seahawks and caught four passes for 95 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Another prolific wideout in Tyler Lockett finished on 92 receiving yards on 8 receptions during the team's opening game. Running back Chris Carson also contributed 45 yards on 6 receptions with 2 scored touchdowns for the Seahawks.
The Seattle-based squad balanced scoring on its loaded roster took away the game for them right from the get-go. They eventually displayed a masterful performance against the Atlanta Falcons as they defeated the home team by way of a 38-25 decision. They will attempt to replicate the same success as they go up against the revamped New England Patriots on September 20.
DK Metcalf has already established himself among the NFL's best young stars of today. He will only improve as the season goes by and will continuously remind the rest of the league that he is not one to be slept on.
