The New England Patriots are still the favorites to retain the talents of future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady for the 2020 season.
However, he is a free agent. Which means no one is actually sure where he'll be going.
Due to that, there have been rumors swirling pretty wildly about Brady and where he'll actually be playing in 2020.
Could the Tampa Bay Buccaneers be a possible destination? They could actually be a great fit. Here are three reasons why a Tom Brady and Buccaneers pairing would make a lot of sense.
Mike Evans
No disrespect to Julian Edelman and a few others, but Mike Evans would be the best wide receiver Brady has played with since Randy Moss. He's that good.
No, Antonio Brown doesn't count, he only played in one game.
Evans is absolutely ridiculous, a true matchup nightmare. He's also still just 26, which means he might not even have hit his full potential yet.
Now, Tom Brady is 42, so having younger receivers doesn't really mean much for him. But the fact that Evans is still in his prime and would have Brady makes things even scarier.
It's not just Evans either. Chris Godwin is a legitimate star as well. And O.J. Howard has tons of potential at tight end.
The Buccaneers have weapons. Evans is the prize though. Brady getting to throw to him, even for just one season, would be a treat.
Defensive Potential
Article Continues BelowThere are a lot of good players with Tampa Bay. That includes Shaquil Barrett, who led the entire NFL in sacks last season with 19.5.
Now, Tampa Bay definitely had it's issues. The Buccaneers were actually one of the worst teams in the NFL when it came to opponents scoring. In fact, their 28.1 points allowed per game was the fourth worst in the league.
That wasn't all their fault though. Remember, quarterback Jameis Winston had 30 interceptions. That means he was putting his defense in some tough spots quite often.
Give them a quarterback who keeps them off the field longer and keeps them in fewer compromising positions and maybe things go a little differently for them.
Tom Brady would be that stable QB and could oddly enough help the Tampa Bay defense get much better.
Cap Room
The Buccaneers could do more than just get Brady. By the sound of it, Brady will be asking for less than Winston. So if they go with the six-time Super Bowl winner, they will actually be saving money.
That money could then be used to get him another weapon, or protection on the offensive line. Or it could be used to get more help on the defense and continue improvements there.
Getting Tom Brady could definitely turn this team that went 7-9 into a playoff team that could make a Super Bowl push. Now give him some extra help with the money you save, and suddenly a Super Bowl push is definitely in the cards.
