Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Carolina Hurricanes are coming off of a loss to the Detroit Red Wings, their first defeat over their past six games. Most of those wins can be credited towards their goaltending as they continue to bail out their teammates. Carolina has given up 30 or more shots in three of their last six games, but they've relied on Frederik Andersen to help keep those pucks out of the net. He should be looking to get another start here tonight as he's in the running for the Vezina Trophy with a .930 save percentage and allowing just 2.03 goals per game. This high-powered team will look to stay on top of the East with a win here tonight against a very dangerous Capitals team.

Why The Capitals Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Washington Capitals have a knack for quality scoring and could easily make Carolina pay for their defensive woes. As good as they've been at putting pucks in the net, the Capitals have some inconsistencies on the defensive side of the rink, allowing 21 goals against in their last seven games. Because the Capitals are on a three-game losing streak, they'll look to bounce back here tonight through starting goaltender Ilya Samsonov. He'll most likely get the start between the home pipes tonight as he is having an up and down year with a .901 save percentage and allowing 2.93 goals against per game. If the Capitals want to find a better position for playoffs, they're going to have to snap this losing streak and find some greasy ways to get some points on the board.

Final Hurricanes-Capitals Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams have been offensively proficient throughout the season and both teams have had a recent slump when it comes to defense. With that said, it's safe to assume that both squads won't have a problem scoring goals. I actually think the odds for the Hurricanes Moneyline (-134) is really nice, especially for a team that is leading the East. However, I think the over will definitely hit here since both teams are looking to get back on track in their own ways. Give me Over 6, but don't be scared of that road team Moneyline either.

Final Hurricanes-Capitals Prediction and Pick: Over 6 (-110)
