The New York Rangers are heading down south to Texas tonight as they take on the Dallas Stars. Both of these teams have been playing great so far this season, despite the Rangers coming into this matchup on a two-game losing streak. Both of these teams are also in line for making the playoffs: the Rangers are in a pretty solid third place for their division while the Stars are currently in the second wild-card spot. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Rangers-Stars prediction and pick.

Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New York Rangers are having a great season overall, and really need their offense to step up in a big way if they hope to have a deep playoff run this year. Their current 2.91 goals per game rating just is not going to cut it. The offense has its struggles, but their defense is very solid as they are only allowing 2.55 goals per game. Most of that defensive success can be credited towards the Vezina Trophy's leading favorite goaltending in Igor Shesterkin. He'll most likely be looking for another start between the pipes tonight as he is sporting a .939 save percentage and allowing just 2.02 goals against per game. Shesterkin will need to keep his hot hand going as the Rangers will lean on him once again.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars are coming off of a 2-1 loss to the Predators on Tuesday, which brings down their offensive success to 2.91 goals per game. While their offense has been stepping up lately, their defense has continued to remain great all season. They are currently allowing only 2.86 goals per game. With that said, the goaltending has really stepped it up since the All-Star break as starting netminder Jake Oettinger will look to defend the home crease tonight. He is having a great season with a .922 save percentage and 2.30 goals against per game. He'll look to stay hot tonight against a very low-scoring Rangers team.

Final Rangers-Stars Prediction & Pick

The Stars have won seven of their last 10 games and look to add another one here tonight on home ice. However, they play a hot Rangers team who want to improve on their own playoff position. With an outstanding goaltender in Igor Shesterkin, the Rangers are looking to bounce back after losing two games in a row. The good news is that the Rangers are underdogs in this matchup and give great value for being on the road, and I think they'll do just that. Give me the Rangers Moneyline while it's in plus money.
