Novak Djokovic takes on Francisco Cerundolo at the French Open. Our French Open odds series has our Djokovic Cerundolo prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Djokovic Cerundolo.

The 2024 French Open is endlessly fascinating, with Novak Djokovic being as big a story as any other in Paris entering the second week of the tournament. Djokovic battled Lorenzo Musetti for more than four hours late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. His match didn't end until after 3 a.m. on Sunday due to a schedule backlog created by a lot of long matches. Earlier in the day, Alexander Zverev beat Tallon Griekspoor in over four hours. That and other extended matches pushed Djokovic's match late into the night. Djokovic won the first set but then watched Musetti raise his game the next two sets and take a two sets to one lead. Djokovic — who came back from a two-set deficit in 2021 to beat Musetti en route to the Roland Garros championship — had to come back from another deficit to beat Musetti again. The difference: Djokovic was at the top of his game in 2021. Three years later, in 2024, Djokovic looks slower at age 37.

Djokovic's body has not been as responsive or sharp, raising questions about his staying power after a 2023 tennis year in which he won three majors and was still the big dog on tour. Father Time came for Roger Federer. It came for Rafael Nadal. Is it coming now for Djokovic? The Serbian superstar hoped he could fend off the aging process for a few more years, but the events of the first five months of 2024 — in which Djokovic has surprisingly not made a single final of any tournament he has entered — have cast fresh doubts on his ability to maintain longevity into his late 30s and early 40s. Everyone wondered, as Djokovic fell behind Musetti after midnight in Paris, if he could summon the magic of his proud past.

He did. He hammered Musetti in the final two sets, 6-3, 6-0, to advance. Now we have a situation in which Djokovic has rediscovered his best tennis but, on the other hand, has to face the physical challenge of recuperating from that long and late match to play a much younger player, Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo, in the fourth round. Djokovic's talent and mental toughness are supreme, but is this a match in which physical fitness and stamina might be challenged. This is a day match following his late-night match. Djokovic is not getting a full 48-hour turnaround; it's more like 30 hours. If Djokovic can get through this match, he might be the favorite to win the tournament, but this match could be grueling if the younger Cerundolo can make this match a physical test.

Why Novak Djokovic Could Cover The Spread

The spread of 7.5 games for this match means that Djokovic needs to win multiple sets by three games. If he wins two sets by three games apiece, and he wins a third set by two games, he will cover. A 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 scoreline covers the spread for Djokovic. That's 18 games to 10 in his favor, plus-8. Cerundolo is talented, but he has not had a huge breakthrough career win. The burden of proof is on Cerundolo to show he can do this. He hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt.

Why Francisco Cerundolo Could Cover The Spread

Djokovic will likely win, but Cerundolo is getting a lot of games. Given that Djokovic might be fatigued from his late match against Musetti, Cerundolo can probably keep it close. He could lose 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 — a routine score — and still cover.

Final Novak Djokovic-Francisco Cerundolo Prediction & Pick

Djokovic's physical fatigue probably enables Cerundolo to stay just close enough to cover, but frankly, this is not a good match to bet on. Our official recommendation: Pass.

Final Novak Djokovic-Francisco Cerundolo Prediction & Pick: Cerundolo +7.5 games
