What does a 45-6 record (31-2 in conference play) get you these days? Apparently a warm seat verging on hot, if you are Ohio State football coach Ryan Day.

Fans are debating Day's job security after comments made on ESPN Cleveland radio by commentator Paul Finebaum. Alluding to Day's 1-2 record against Ohio State football's biggest rival, Finebaum put it succinctly: “You have to beat Michigan, if you want to continue successfully as the Ohio State head coach.”

Day and the Buckeyes have lost two straight to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, to some, a worrying sign.

It also doesn't help that Day has not taken Ohio State football to the College Football Playoff National Championship since 2021. For the city of Columbus, those two marks against Day loom largely.

If Day and Ohio State repeat those indignities this season, Finebaum senses trouble. “Assuming that we're sitting here Thanksgiving weekend, and Ohio State has lost to Michigan and they're not in the playoffs, I think that's a really bad sign. So yeah…I think he'll be trending toward hot seat land, and I frankly think he should be.”

So, what did fans think about Finebaum's comments? Was he overreacting, or right on the mark? There were supporters of both sides of the argument on social media.

“Nobody can dispute this right?” asked one fan assuredly.

For many, the thought of an OSU coach losing three straight to Michigan while keeping his job was simply unfathomable. Another fan predicted that Day's tenure would essentially be over with another loss to UM.

But other fans weren't convinced, pointing out that Ohio State was a field goal away from advancing to the CFP final just last season. One fan argued that even with three straight losses to Harbaugh and Co., Day's job should not be in question.

For many, November 25th can't come fast enough.
