The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need a long-term running back option, and it would make a lot of sense for the team to target Ohio State standout J.K. Dobbins during the upcoming NFL Draft.

Dobbins is expected to be one of the top running back prospects in the upcoming draft class. Even if the Buccaneers had to use their first-round draft pick to select him, it would make plenty of sense.

A lot of the attention surronding the Ohio State Buckeyes' offense involves Justin Fields and for good reason. He is one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football. However, it could be argued that Dobbins is actually the glue that holds the offense together.

On the season, Dobbins has rushed 283 times for 1,829 yards and 20 touchdowns. He has also added 17 catches for 200 yards and two touchdowns. His individual contributions have been highly impressive and have solidified himself as a top running back prospect.

Right now, Ronald Jones is the Buccaneers' top running back after being a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has been solid, but adding Dobbins to go along with Jones would greatly improve the Tampa Bay's offense.

Thedraftnetwork.com recently highlighted just how elite of a runner Dobbins is, especially given how effective he is after contact.

“Downhill runner that has shown the ability to be physical runner between the tackles. Displays sufficient vision and instincts. As a result he rarely overruns cuts. Does a good job running behind his pads and finishing runs. He runs with a strong base and will get yards after contact. His very good vision, feet and instincts are also evidenced in his prowess with weak arm cuts in the open field. In the passing game, he is a sufficient route runner. Shows sufficient hands as a catcher out of the backfield on screen plays and as a check down option. Does a good locating most dangerous man in pass protection. Is a bit of a build up runner but displays good long speed in the open field to score and beat angles by DBs.”

The Buccaneers have recently been a pass first time with Jameis Winston under center, but there is no guarantee he is going to be re-signed. Even if he is, it wouldn't be the worst thing to have a dominant run game to take some of the pressure of their passing game.

Maybe that would help Winston to stop forcing so many throws and reduce the overall amount of turnovers by their offense as a result. Even if the Buccaneers don't decide to go with J.K. Dobbins, they need to draft another impact running back at some point in this upcoming offseason.
