With Aaron Rodgers gone the way of the dinosaurs, Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has a tough task ahead of him. Operating with a backup gunslinger is tough for any National Football League team, nevertheless one that is trying to replace someone as gifted as Rodgers.

According to Mike McCarthy, though, the Packers don't need just a quarterback to win football games.

“We all need to do better,” McCarthy said, via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “We had an injury to Aaron Rodgers and nobody’s stepped up. No group has stepped up yet. We’ve had two games that were very similar in nature.”

“There’s more than one way to win in this league, and we’re fully capable of it,” McCarthy said.

Many would argue that Aaron Rodgers has, at least the last few years, masked a lot of the problems the Packers face. That, maybe, the team's roster isn't actually good and/or that McCarthy isn't as good a coach as we are led to believe.

Luckily for Mike McCarthy, at least for those who believe Rodgers made him a respected coach, he has a chance to prove his salt for the remainder of the season. If those other areas can help Green Bay win football games, and he uses them to make that so, maybe the national perception around him will change.

Until then, most people are going to assume Mike McCarthy's “good” was only good due to the Hall of Fame-level QB he has had on his roster since arriving in town.
