Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams wants to be the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst obviously values Adams, but the two sides haven't been able to come to an agreement on a contract extension.

The 2021 regular season starts in about a month, so there's still time for these negotiations to play out before then. If no deal is struck by then, will negotiations then be tabled during the season? Gutekunst claims that won't be the case.

Via Zach Kruse of Packers Wire:

“We’re always open to the conversations, we don’t shut things down for the season. I know some teams have done that in the past. Russ and I don’t think that’s how we would do things. We’re open, like last year with David, we’re willing to work through the season to get things done,” Gutekunst said Sunday.

There's recent precedent for the Packers working out a deal during the season with a high-profile player. Just last year, David Bakhtiari got a long-term contract done in November. So, perhaps something similar happens with Adams, though Gutekunst admits “it will take some time.”

Adams certainly deserves a fat new contract after hauling in 115 passes for 1,374 yards and a whopping 18 touchdowns in 2020. He was named First-Team All-Pro for his contributions to a team that made it to the NFC Championship Game.

This Packers offseason has featured plenty of drama when considering Adams' situation and the Aaron Rodgers fiasco. Both players are set to dominate again in 2021, but after that the future is murky.
