After Aaron Rodgers agreed to stay, it seemed impossible that the Green Bay Packers would make any move with Davante Adams. Yet, they made a stunning move to trade him to the Las Vegas Raiders, depriving Rodgers of the receiver he connected with the best.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network that the decision to trade Adams was very hard but that, because the two sides couldn't come to a contract agreement, the trade had to be made.

“Sometimes you got to make some tough decisions,” LaFleur said. “Certainly appreciate everything Davante brought to our team. I mean, he is the best receiver in the National Football League, so that was a tough one for me personally and for our organization.”

Asked if there were any discussions of trying to talk Adams out of leaving, LaFleur replied: “Well, there really wasn't anything to talk about. I mean, you're going through a contract negotiation and certainly it was just one of those deals where, like I said, a lot of tough decisions had to be made.”

Adams issued a heartfelt goodbye to Green Bay after the trade. Rodgers knew the trade would happen beforehand, though it is still a tough pill to swallow. The two superstars were nearly unstoppable together.

The Packers need to get Rodgers a new primary target after trading Adams and letting Marquez Valdes-Scantling sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. The draft picks they got from the Raiders should greatly help and there are some solid free-agent options still available, namely Julio Jones.
