Muhammad Wilkerson was expected to be a key part of the Green Bay Packers' revamped defense this season. After signing with the Packers in free agency, Wilkerson was talked about as being a major X-Factor. Unfortunately, the Packers lost Wilkerson for the season due to an ankle injury.

According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Wilkerson underwent a second surgery on his injured ankle. Prior to the surgery, there were questions about his career taking a hit due to the injury, but the good news is that Wilkerson will make a full recovery.

Losing Wilkerson is a big blow for the Packers. He is a big body to have on the line and is a capable pass rusher as well. Wilkerson had not been able to show too much for the Packers in the limited time that he played, but defensive coordinator Mike Pettine loved having him on the roster.

In the three games that he was able to play this season, Wilkerson recorded five tackles.

The future for Wilkerson will be interesting. He was hoping to come through with a big season for the Packers to set his market for next offseason in free agency. Instead, he will be coming off of a serious ankle injury and will have a hard time finding anything more than another one-year deal.

Green Bay will certainly miss Wilkerson, but they still have a lot of talent on their defensive line. Kenny Clark and Mike Daniels are both stars and Dean Lowry has proven himself capable of making plays as well.

Wilkerson will get back to full health in the future and perhaps the Packers could consider another one-year deal with him next offseason.
