Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is going to take some time before he makes a decision on his future, but the Packers are apparently cautiously optimistic he'll return for another season, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapaport.

Why is that?

Here's Rapaport on Rodgers' upcoming decision:

Sources say Rodgers stayed in the building for a few extra days to plot out the team's future, huddling with coach Matt LaFleur and others and mapping out what's next. It left those in the organization with confidence moving forward that Rodgers will return for the 2022 season.

Cautious optimism was the phrase, per sources, though no one wants to interfere with Rodgers' process. And Packers decision makers all respect the steps he'll take to arrive at his eventual decision.

Rodgers could have skipped town to head to Los Angeles immediately after the devastating playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but the fact that he stuck around Green Bay to discuss the future has the franchise thinking he's serious about staying. Things could always change, of course, but this doesn't appear to be a situation where the quarterback is definitely out the door. It seems as if Rodgers and the organization have indeed patched things up after all the ugliness last offseason.

The Packers do have some salary cap issues to work out, and Rodgers said publicly he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild. There's a big decision to make on star wide receiver Davante Adams, who's expected to be hit with the franchise tag before hopefully working out a new deal.

There will surely be rumors about other teams looking to poach Rodgers. The Denver Broncos just hired away Nathaniel Hackett, who was the offensive coordinator in Green Bay, which will only add fuel to that fire after the Broncos tried to trade for Rodgers last offseason.

Rodgers has said he won't take too long to make a decision, so there should be more clarity in the coming weeks.
