Patrick Cantlay edged Bryson DeChambeau in a thrilling six-hole playoff at the BMW Championship. But before that, Cantlay had an intriguing moment with the colorful DeChambeau on the 14th hole in the final round. With the stakes high and the pressure mounting, DeChambeau appeared to be annoyed by Cantlay, with the latter getting called out by the former for… walking.
Patrick Cantlay was asked about it after finishing the round. If reporters were looking for a juicy quote, the nine-year pro didn't throw them that bone.
“He just wanted me to stop walking. We had just been told by the rules officials to kind of speed up, and I’m not always the fastest walker, so I was trying to get ahead and do my part. No big deal.”
Instead, Patrick Cantlay was content to take over in the clutch. He outlasted DeChambeau in the playoff with a sizzling performance. Cantlay has been solid of late. He has posted great results in his last eight starts, a stretch that also includes his win at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide back in June. Prior to the BMW Championship, Patrick Cantlay had a T-11 at The Northern Trust and a T-23 at the World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational.
With his win over the weekend, Cantlay is now the overall leader in the FedEx Cup standings heading into this week's TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
