If Jaden Ivey is to be believed, then the Detroit Pistons may have hit the jackpot in the 2022 NBA Draft. The No. 5 overall pick has compared his game to not only Ja Morant and Russell Westbrook. He has even name-dropped Dwyane Wade and no less than Michael Jordan.

Was it arrogance? Not really.

There's good reason why Ivey went high on a lot of mock drafts. He's a dynamic athlete who is a very strong finisher at the rim. At least in that aspect, the 6'4 guard lines up well with Morant and Westbrook.

Ivey averaged 17.3 points per game in his sophomore year with the Purdue Boilermakers. He turned a lot of scouts' heads with his confidence and explosiveness. Those can potentially translate very well at the next level for him and the Pistons.

Ivey prides himself on his quickness, athleticism, handles, and finishing. Pistons fans are certainly going to want to see all of those on display this coming season.

It also helps that Jaden has been around basketball his whole life. He is the son of former WNBA player and current Notre Dame women's basketball head coach Niele Ivey. Jaden's father and grandfather, meanwhile, both played in the NFL. Pro sports runs in this kid's blood, and it's clear that his destiny is to continue the family line.

If Ivey's game does resemble that of Morant's and/or Westbrook's, then that should be a great complement to a Pistons backcourt already featuring Cade Cunningham.

Ivey went even further, though. He also mentioned how he has been working on his mid-range. He's certainly trying to diversify and be a bit more like Wade and Jordan, too.

If everything checks out, then Jaden Ivey's play style fits right into the pace of today's NBA, and having a Cunningham-Ivey backcourt duo would be something worth building around for the Detroit Pistons.
