The Detroit Pistons are in the midst of a rebuild. They struggled throughout the 2021-2022 season but saw consistent progress from budding star Cade Cunningham. Detroit is now looking to build a solid foundation around Cunningham and take the next step in the rebuilding process.

The Knicks have plenty of cap space and are reportedly looking to add a couple of stars to compliment Cade Cunningham. They would like to add a guard and a big man to form a “big 3” of sorts. Their model could end up looking similar to the Suns or Heat (Phoenix – Chris Paul, Devin Booker Deandre Ayton, Miami – Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo).

Some of the players linked to the Pistons include Jalen Brunson, Collin Sexton, Mitchell Robinson, and even Deandre Ayton. The Pistons' goal would be to pair one of Brunson or Sexton with one of Robinson or Ayton.

Jalen Brunson established himself as a star this year in Dallas. However, he played second fiddle to Luka Doncic. It is plausible that he could head to Detroit and become the go-to guy alongside Cade Cunningham.

Collin Sexton missed the 2021-2022 season due to injury. But his talent is immense and is expected to draw interest on the open market. However, the Cavaliers have expressed a desire in re-signing Sexton.

Mitchell Robinson isn't a household name but he is a quality player. He could end becoming one of the most underrated signings of the offseason regardless of if he ends up with the Pistons or not.

And finally, Deandre Ayton. Ayton and the Suns reportedly had a falling out after losing in the postseason. He and coach Monty Williams were involved in a verbal altercation on the sideline in Phoenix's Game 7 loss against the Mavs in the Western Conference Semifinals. As a result, many expect Ayton to leave in free agency.

He is arguably the most talented free agent.

The Pistons could become an instant contender if they can ink two of these stars.
