Pixar is reportedly looking at rebooting their early movies such as Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
The news comes from a new cover story from Bloomberg Businessweek. The story is about how Pixar and Disney alike are hedging their bets on Inside Out 2 being a box office hit. They are coming off of disappointing box office results for the likes of Wish and Lightyear. Even Elemental was looking rocky before it legged out to nearly $500 million.
“Every hit of yesteryear is being considered for a reboot, with Finding Nemo and The Incredibles regarded as particularly strong candidates for new titles,” the story reads.
This is a bit of a surprising development. The Incredibles made over $630 million at the box office. Its 2018 sequel, Incredibles 2, is the highest-grossing film in Pixar's history after making over $1.2 billion worldwide.
Similarly, the Nemo franchise has been a major hit. Finding Nemo made over $870 million worldwide. Finding Dory, the 2016 sequel film, made over $1 billion worldwide during its theatrical run.
It is surprising to hear that Pixar is leaning towards rebooting the series instead of making more entries. Perhaps this is due to the age of some of the actors — the Incredibles films feature Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel L. Jackson in their cast. The Nemo franchise is led by Albert Brooks, who is 76 years old.
Pixar movies
Pixar was founded in 1986 and has been a subsidiary of Disney since 2006. They are best known for their iconic animated films and have made dozens of them.

The early 2000s saw more films released that would go on to spark franchises. Pixar was on a roll from 2001-06 when Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars were released. All of those films would later receive at least one sequel, prequel, or spin-off.
Other notable films include Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up, Brave, Coco, Soul, Turning Red, and Elemental.
As a studio, Pixar has won 23 Oscars. These wins span various categories from Special Achievement to Best Original Song, but their first Best Animated Feature win came for Finding Nemo. The Incredibles followed that up with another Best Animated Feature win the following year.
Their last Best Animated Feature win was for Soul in 2021. The film also won Best Original Score. Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste took home that prize.
Coming up, Pixar has several high-profile projects in the works. First up is Inside Out 2. The film is the long-awaited sequel to 2015's Inside Out, which is one of the most successful films in the studio's entire history. It made over $850 million worldwide during its theatrical run and is one of the five highest-grossing films (domestically) in the studio's history.
The studio also has a new original film, Elio, coming out in June 2025. Adrian Molina is making his feature directorial debut with the Pixar film and it stars Yonas Kibreab, America Ferrera, Jameela Jamil, and Brad Garrett. They will also release Toy Story 5 in 2026.
