Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard is a huge Las Vegas Raiders fans, but he certainly can't help but be disappointed over the news that head coach Jon Gruden used a racist trope to describe NFLPA exec DeMaurice Smith in an email back in 2011.

In a report by Andrew Beaton of The Wall Street Journal, Gruden apparently sent an email to then Washington Redskins general manager Bruce Allen during the lockout in which he said Smith's lips were comparable to car tires. For what it's worth, the Raiders head coach was an ESPN employee at the time, serving as a color analyst for the network's football coverage.

“Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of michellin tires,” Gruden reportedly wrote in the email unearthed by WSJ.

Upon seeing the news, Damian Lillard expressed his shock and was almost speechless, only writing SMH or “Shaking My Head” while quote-tweeting a screenshot of Jon Gruden's remarks from WSJ.

Gruden, for his part, shared his remorse and regret for the said statements. The Raiders tactician also noted that he doesn't remember writing the said email, but he did say he was frustrated with the situation at the time because of the lockout.

Meanwhile, the NFL has already condemned the “appalling” words used by Gruden to describe DeMaurice Smith, who has been serving as the executive director of the National Football Players Association since 2009.

It remains to be seen what punishment or action the NFL will take with regards to the unearthed email from Gruden. However, it is quite certain that the head coach and the Raiders will be on the receiving end of waves of criticisms after the news.
