Marcus Mariota's tenure with the Las Vegas Raiders officially came to an end Monday when the quarterback signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. Mariota will compete to be the starter in Atlanta after the Falcons traded Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts. After hearing the news that Mariota was headed to Atlanta, Derek Carr took to Twitter to show his gratitude to his former teammate, and tell Falcons fans about the type of player headed to the team.

Carr congratulated Mariota on securing a two-year deal in Atlanta, after having served as the backup to Carr in Las Vegas over the past two seasons. Carr didn't hold back with his praise of the former Oregon star, calling Mariota “one of the greatest humans on the planet.”

The two developed a close bond during Mariota's stay on the Raiders, and while Carr is sad to see his buddy leave, he's delighted that he'll get an opportunity for more playing time with the Falcons. The duo, dubbed as Carriota, is officially coming to an end.

Mariota mostly served as clipboard holder during his stint with the Raiders. He attempted just 30 pass attempts across two seasons, throwing one touchdown pass. The former No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft will get another shot as a starter after flaming out with the Titans after a few seasons.

Mariota will have some large shoes to fill, stepping in as the potential heir apparent to Matt Ryan in Atlanta, but he'll be eager to take the opportunity head-on, and he'll definitely have Carr's support throughout the battle.
