Las Vegas Raiders general manager Mike Mayock faced the media for the first time on Wednesday after Jon Gruden's resignation amid a shocking scandal.

Mayock delivered an opening statement highlighting the Raiders' commitment to diversity. Mayock also noted that Raiders owner Mark Davis takes matters of diversity, social justice and domestic violence very seriously. Here's the opening statement:

This whole saga started with the leak of a Gruden email from 2011 in which he used a racist trope to describe NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith. Gruden tried to apologize for the email and was allowed to coach in Las Vegas' loss to the Chicago Bears over the weekend.

Then came an even bigger bombshell, with a number of old Gruden emails spanning over seven years featuring racist, sexist, misogynist and homophobic comments. There was nowhere for Gruden to hide after these email leaks, resulting in him rightfully handing in his Raiders resignation.

Mayock is now picking up the pieces after this debacle. The general manager was hired a season after Gruden got a 10-year, $100 million contract to be the Raiders' head coach. As of now, it seems Mayock will not be losing his job, at least not yet.

While having Mayock speak was a good step in the right direction, Davis should also speak more to the media given it was his decision to make Gruden a $100 million man, instead of just offering up this lame response to ESPN. The Raiders owner needs to take accountability for all of his decisions and give a clear statement about the franchise moving forward.
