One of the big questions for the Oakland Raiders this NFL offseason is who is the quarterback going forward, but it seems like that question has already been answered with head coach Jon Gruden saying again that Derek Carr is the quarterback of the franchise moving forward.

“Yes. He’s our franchise quarterback. Let me make that clear,” Gruden said via Pro Football Talk.

These comments come only a day after Raiders general manager Mike Mayock had nothing but praise for Carr and said he is the quarterback of this team.

“Derek Carr is a franchise quarterback,” Mayock said via Yahoo.com. “I truly believe that.”

Mayock said it's always his job to look for ways to improve the franchise, but it's going to be very hard to find a way to improve on Carr.

“Is it a coach and GM’s job to always keep your eye out for ways to improve the position? Yes,” Mayock said. “But it’s really hard to improve on Derek Carr.”

Carr has had his struggles during his time in the league but he has also shown flashes of a really good quarterback, and he actually played well the second half of last season. During a ten game stretch last year Carr threw for 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions, and that is a step in the right direction.

If he can continue to make the right decisions and not throw interceptions he still has a bright future in the league but he still has a lot to prove, and that will start with how he plays this upcoming season.

For now, it seems like Gruden and Mayock are all on board the Carr train.
