Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs has been ruled out for the team's Week 13 matchup against the New York Jets.

Jacobs suffered an ankle injury during the team's embarrassing 43-6 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. The setback is not as bad as previously feared, but Raiders head coach John Gruden said Friday Jacobs will not play as Vegas takes on the Jets.

Jacobs had a nice stretch of games between Week 8 and Week 10, including a pair of 100-yard performances on the ground to go along with three rushing touchdowns.

But things have been more of a struggle for the second-year running back in recent weeks. Jacobs rushed 17 times for just 55 yards in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, though he did find the end zone. He was hardly able to even get into the game the following week against the Falcons, as the Raiders fell behind early and Jacobs finished with just seven rushes for 27 yards.

Las Vegas has not been able to find a real groove this season. The Raiders started the year 2-0, then promptly lost three of their next four. Gruden's team then rattled off three straight wins to get to 6-3, only to lose in back-to-back weeks.

The Raiders have their work cut out for them in terms of making the playoffs. Las Vegas is just on the bubble, with the New England Patriots following close behind at 5-6 on the year.

Fortunately, the Raiders have a good shot at getting back on track against the winless Jets, though they will have to establish the run without Josh Jacobs in the backfield.
