Former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden is suing the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell over the leaked emails that exposed his previous racist and homophobic remarks. However, by the looks of it, the league is gearing up to fight back and defend itself against the allegations.

As reported earlier, Gruden alleges the NFL of orchestrating a “malicious” campaign designed to “destroy” his career and reputation. In the lawsuit filed in Nevada district court (per Las Vegas Review-Journal), Gruden's lawyer claimed that the veteran coach was “forced to resign” from the Raiders and blamed the league for leaking the controversial 2011 email to Wall Street Journal that started all the chaose.

“When their initial salvo did not result in Gruden’s firing or resignation, Defendants ratcheted up the pressure by intimating that further documents would become public if Gruden was not fired,” Gruden's attorney, Adam Hosmer-Henner, wrote in the lawsuit. “They followed through with this threat by leaking another batch of documents to the New York Times for an October 11, 2021 article. On October 7, 2021, Jon Gruden was the head coach of the Raiders on a 10-year, $100-million contract. By October 11, 2021, he had been forced to resign.”

In response to the allegations and lawsuit from Jon Gruden's camp, the league shared a statement to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network citing their plan to “vigorously defend” the case.

“The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims,” the NFL said.

It remains to be seen how the lawsuit will pan out. There are expectation that the two sides will just settle, but it looks like the NFL is ready to fight the claims against them.
