Eric Weddle returned home this offseason, signing with the Los Angeles Rams after being released by the Baltimore Ravens.

Weddle, who was born in Fontana, Ca. and spent the first nine years of his NFL career out in California with the then-San Diego Chargers, wanted to return to his native state so badly that he turned down more lucrative offers to join the Rams:

“I had tons of opportunities to go other places for a lot more money,” said Weddle, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com. “But it's just not a reality at this point of my career. It's a great opportunity to come to an amazing organization, an established team with an amazing coach, go out and put my stamp on things and try to help lead this team to a championship.”

The 34-year-old signed a two-year, $10.5 million deal with Los Angeles back in March.

Weddle, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, was originally selected by the Chargers in the second round (37th pick overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft.

It didn't take long for Weddle to stamp his name among the best safeties in the league, as he racked up 127 tackles, a sack, an interception, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown in his second season.

He made three Pro Bowl appearances while earning one First-Team All-Pro selection with the Bolts before landing with the Ravens in 2016. Weddle then proceeded to make the Pro Bowl in all three of his seasons in Baltimore and is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he totaled 68 tackles and a sack.
