Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead knows that Todd Gurley wasn't the same in 2019 but still has faith in him going forward. Gurley finished with career lows in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and yards from scrimmage.

“This year, he wasn’t [the same running back],” Rams General Manager Les Snead said Tuesday, via Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.

When asked to elaborate, Snead said he was talking strictly from a stats point and how his stats clearly were down from years past.

“This year, he wasn’t, again, in terms of stats,” Snead said, via Rich Hammond of TheAthletic.com.

As much as the team has tried to downplay his knee issues it's clear it's had a big impact on his game, and it's something that will probably only get worse going forward. One of the other reasons his stats were down was his lack of lock runs.

“That’s a fact,” Snead said when a reporter mentioned Gurley didn’t have as many long runs this season.

When asked if he regretted giving Gurley the big contract, Snead made it clear he had no regrets because rewarding players for what they do isn't all just about the stats on the paper.

“I can see where you [might say], from an analytical standpoint, ‘OK, maybe you give him a contract and he didn’t have as good a statistical year,’” Snead said, via Hammond. “We believe you can’t necessarily CEO and lead from just a spreadsheet. That’s probably the age of ‘Madden’ football, and you can move people in fantasy. Those are human beings that gave a lot to this organization and deserve to be compensated.”

The Rams are in a tough spot with Gurley but one thing is clear, they need better play from him. With such a large contract and so many questions, it's hard to imagine a team is going to trade for him. That means Gurley is going to need to start living up to his new contract with his play on the field.
