Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams risked it, but they didn't get the biscuit.

Down 21-7 to the San Francisco 49ers with halftime nearing, Goff targeted running back Malcolm Brown on a swing pass. It didn't meander its way into Brown's hands. 49ers linebacker Fred Warner found it and took it all the way to the house. 46 yards. Touchdown.

The Rams wound up losing 34-31 on a game-winning field goal. Naturally, Goff is regretful of his decision.

That’s a big mistake I can’t make there,” Goff said postgame, via Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire. “It’s a bad one – something that’ll eat at me for a while. End of the half, it just was not a good – just got to be more careful with the ball. Just got to be more careful and take care of it in that situation. Something I’ll learn from, something I’ll get better from.”

In losing to the 49ers, the Rams found themselves eliminated from the playoffs. They have not yet cured themselves of the ultimate bad hangover: not visiting the playoffs after losing in the Super Bowl.

There is nothing the Rams can do about that now, however. Los Angeles, for the first time under coach Sean McVay and the second time in Goff's career, will not be contending for the ultimate goal.

“It’s extremely disappointing,” Goff said of the season. “You never envision something like this when you start the year. It’s not even close to the standard we want to hold. It’s sickening.”
