The Aaron Donald saga rumbles on. The Los Angeles Rams star will officially become a restricted free agent in 2019 after he failed to report by the Aug. 7 deadline. But that really wasn’t much of an issue since it was hard to see any team handing over a first-round pick for signing Donald to a successful offer sheet.

Head coach Sean McVay recently commented that there hasn’t been much progress in the Donald contract talks, which is obviously not promising for Rams fans. However, Rams GM Les Snead did offer up a slightly more positive update.

Rams COO Kevin Demoff said last week that the Rams and Donald’s camp don’t agree on Donald’s true market value. There ‘s a sense that Donald might not be satisfied with only being the highest paid defensive player in the league, but that he might be hoping for starting quarterback-level money.

But Snead’s comments seem to indicate that the two sides aren’t that far apart in negotiations, which is a good sign if true. However, the fact of the matter is that Donald is still not signed and not in camp. As long as no deal is done, it makes no difference how close the two are in getting one done.

Donald appears to be ready to sit out until he gets his new deal. And with the Rams possibly in with a real chance to contend for a Super Bowl title this season, they’ll need arguably their best player to help get them over the top.
