The Los Angeles Rams, at least for now, have decided against using the franchise tag on edge rusher Dante Fowler or any other player, general manager Les Snead said on Monday, per ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

Still, that hardly means the team has plans to move on from the promising former top-five pick.

Four days before announcing Los Angeles' decision to avoid using the franchise tag this offseason, Snead told Rams.com Fowler's free agency would be the “domino” that informs how the team addresses outside linebacker before next season.

“I think our biggest priority is Dante, whose contract is about to expire. What happens in that situation will determine a lot of things,” he said on Thursday. “We have a lot of young players. It’s been good to see Samson progress. We’ve got Ogbo [Okoronkwo], who didn’t get a shot last year, and how is he going to progress? We’ve got multiple of those young players that got a little bit of minutes last year but not enough.

“I think, really, the domino is Fowler,” Snead continued. “We know what he can do. We know what he can bring to the table. And if he’s not there, there is a void there, and how are we going to fill it? Is it going to be from within or without?”

Fowler was acquired by Los Angeles from the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 30th in exchange for a third-round pick in April’s draft and a fifth-round selection next year.

Playing outside linebacker for the first time in his career, the 24-year-old acquitted himself well, starting six games for the Rams and finishing the season with 21 tackles, two sacks, four tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits
