Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Aaron Neary has been suspended for the first four games of the 2019 season for violating the NFL's policy on substances of abuse, the league announced on Friday.

Neary's suspension likely stems from him being arrested in February on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to USA Today, local law enforcement in Simi Valley, roughly 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles, began receiving multiple 911 calls on September 17 of last year about a person possibly driving under the influence. Callers told police they had been witness to a car driving erratically, failing to stop after crashing into mail boxes, trash cans, and a stop sign. Neary was subjected to a breathalyzer test once authorities arrived on the scene, blowing a .17 blood-alcohol level, more than twice the legal limit to operate a vehicle.

The 26-year-old's first go-around with the Rams came in September 2017, when he was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. Neary was waived and signed to Los Angeles' practice squad two weeks later, earning his first game action on December 27 while filling in as the team's starting center. He was released again following last year's training camp, though, only to return to the Rams' practice squad shortly thereafter following a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns. Neary signed a reserve/futures contract in February.

Los Angeles is considered a favorite in the NFC again this season after defeating the New Orleans Saints in the conference title game in 2018. The Rams subsequently fell to the New England Patriots 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII.
