Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay was blunt after kicker Brett Maher struggled again in their 24-17 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, saying they would “evaluate the landscape.”

“You want to evaluate the landscape, see what that looks like. Brett's been pretty consistent throughout his career. He's had some long attempts that are difficult kicks to be able to make, that we missed. You obviously want to be able to hit the extra point. But those will be things that we could possibly,” McVay explained, via Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register.

In Sunday's loss, Brett Maher missed two field goal attempts and an extra point. Those seven possible points were the difference in the game.

Sunday was the third time that Maher had missed multiple field goal attempts in a game this season. He also missed two attempts in the Rams' season opening win against the Seahawks and missed another two against the Indianapolis Colts in Los Angeles' overtime win.

After Sunday's 1-for-3 performance, Maher is now just 17 for 23 on attempts this season, good for 29th in the NFL.

The Rams are Maher's ninth NFL team in his 10-year career. He spent the three of the last four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. The Rams signed him after star kicker Matt Gay left Los Angeles to sign with the Colts for a record four years, $32 million. Gay only missed two field goal attempts last season, both over 50 yards.

It's not exactly clear how many kickers are available that could step in and help immediately, but at 2-4, the Rams clearly need an upgrade at the position. They visit the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
