Two years ago, then-St. Louis Rams receiver Stedman Bailey battled for his life when he was shot in the head twice, putting him in critical condition. Incredibly, Bailey survived the incident and is now determined to get back on the field to play professional football again.

Speaking to Caleb Wygal of Dubvnation.com, the former West Virginia Mountaineer wide receiver discussed his intention to comeback after being cleared by the NFL and various doctors. With Bailey deemed okay to resume football activities the only question left is whether there will be a team willing to sign him.

“Doctors say I can play,” said Bailey, “but it’ll be up to teams to clear me, which I’ll be looking at this off season.”

Before the shocking shooting incident, Bailey played38 games across three seasons for the Rams. During that stretch, Bailey recorded 843 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 59 catches.

Bailey was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, signing a four-year, $2.73 million contract with St. Louis. The Rams waived him a year earlier than his deal’s expiration date, but he kept in touch with the game he loves by taking part in practices and drills.

He has spent his hours working out every day at a facility near the Rams’ offices out Thousand Oaks, California. He ran routes during the offseason with Geno Smith and trained with other NFL players such as Antonio Brown.
