The move may have come as a bit of a surprise to Austin. However, the writing had been on the wall for quite some time.
The Rams made quite the investment when they traded up to select Austin with the eighth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. He showed plenty of promise early on as an all-purpose playmaker. Unfortunately, he was never able to develop into the electrifying wideout they hoped he would be. This became extremely evident in the 2017 campaign when he was primarily used as a change-of-pace option from running back Todd Gurley.
Regardless, he now has a chance at a fresh start in Dallas. There is no question that the Cowboys are looking to establish a new pecking order in their receiving corps. Austin will need to prove that speed is not the only thing he brings to the table.
The Dallas Cowboys had quite the wide receiver conundrum on their hands this offseason with the departure of wideout Dez Bryant. As a result, they were forced to bring in a number of potential playmakers to help fill the void.
Among them is former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin. According to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic, Austin was admittedly disgruntled with being dealt by the Rams.
