The Los Angeles Rams defeated the New Orleans Saint in a 26-23 overtime thriller in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday to advance to their first Super Bowl in 17 years.

However, one star player who was notably absent for much of the Rams' win was running back Todd Gurley, who carried the ball just four times for 10 yards.

Back in Week 15, Gurley suffered a knee injury against the Philadelphia Eagles and ended up sitting out the final two regular season games. He was then limited in practice in the week leading up to the Rams' Divisional Round matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, but still rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown.

As far as practice went, it was more of the same in the week before the NFC Championship Game, but this time, Gurley didn't produce.

Afterward, Gurley said he did not re-injure himself against the Saints, stating that he just did not play well:

“I was sorry as hell today,” Gurley said after the game, according to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com. “I was sorry. So, C.J. did his thing and the whole team did its thing.”

Gurley was referring to fellow running back C.J. Anderson, who rushed for 44 yards on 16 carries. Not exactly a great effort for Anderson, either, but he still received a heck of a lot more touches than Gurley.

Still, the 25-year-old is happy he will get a chance to redeem himself in the Super Bowl two weeks from now:

“Just to be able to get another opportunity, I'm so grateful, so grateful,” Gurley said.

The Rams will take on the New England Patriots on Feb. 3.
