The Los Angeles Rams had one of the best offenses in the league last year, in no small part due to Todd Gurley. But late last season, Gurley began to have knee issues, and the Rams' offense slowly grinded to a halt, culminating in a three-point Super Bowl performance.

Los Angeles immediately took measures to help their star running back, beginning with the drafting of Darrell Henderson in the third round. Henderson will help keep Gurley fresh, and will ultimately play a huge role, says Gurley.

“Last year we used to come in with only two active running backs, me and Malcolm, and Malcolm was on like every special team, so just to have Darrell in here, that’s going to mean a lot.”

Henderson, formerly of the University of Memphis, is a dynamic back. He finished his last collegiate season with almost 2,000 rushing yards, and is also a capable pass catcher. The Rams have stated that they aim to use the former Tiger as a scat back, using him to spell Gurley, primarily on passing downs.

While many may take this as a sign that Gurley's knee issues are worsening, it is likely just a precaution. The former Georgia Bulldog carried the ball over 18 times a game, and caught it another four. That level of usage is unsustainable for an NFL running back, knee issues or no knee issues.

Although there are some concerns regarding Todd Gurley's knee, the addition of Darrell Henderson is no indication of how serious they are. Bringing Henderson in is simply a good move to help keep the Rams star running back healthy long down the road.
