The Los Angeles Rams have made it quite clear this offseason that the team is all in for the 2018 campaign by bringing in a slew of proven talent. The bulk of this incoming group of players has being labeled as difficult to manage on the field.

Los Angeles has shown no fear in that potential change, especially with defensive coordinator Wade Phillips at the helm on the defensive side of the ball. In response to that, Phillips acknowledged that the addition of players like All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib bring a stronger personality to the roster, but that will in no way lead to him managing the talent, according to Myles Simmons of TheRams.com.

“We’re going to have personality now. You bring in Aqib Talib, you’re going to have personality,” Phillips said. “It’s not manage though. I don’t manage players, I don’t handle players. I just work with players.

Phillips has decades of experience coaching in the NFL and has been around his fair share of players that have had strong personalities, both on and off the field. He has the comfort and confidence to know that he can make it work with these guys for the betterment of the team.

What should be noted is that Phillips has earned the respect and admiration of his players, evident by Talib pushing to reunite with him in Los Angeles this offseason. He is a proven coach that has the resume behind him that he knows how to put his defensive unit in the right position to succeed wherever he has been in his career.

It will be a challenge to get all of the new players to acquiesce into the defensive scheme, but if they are to make it work, the Rams could boast one of the best defenses in the league next season. With Phillips quite confident in his coaching ability with this new group, it could lead to the team having a special year on that side of the ball.
