Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has been a top priority for the Los Angeles Rams ever since they made the heavy investment to bring him over. Unfortunately, it seems there has not been much headway made on a long-term contract heading into the 2020 NFL season.

According to Josina Anderson, formerly of ESPN, both sides are still not close securing a deal.

The update on Ramsey's contract status may come as a cause for concern for Rams fans. After all, they parted ways with two first-round picks just to bring him to town last year and the prospect of him signing with another team in free agency would be seen as a massive waste of resources.

However, the challenges of getting lucrative deals done this offseason has been well-documented due to the restrictions placed in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is safe to say that this has played a major factor in the lack of headway being made so far.

Although he is set to play out the final year of his rookie deal, Jalen Ramsey has made efforts to not let the ongoing contract negotiations serve as a distraction. He has been a full participant in training camp while shooting down any questions from the media regarding his looming deal.

On the second episode of HBO's “Hard Knocks,” a segment was devoted to showing the star defensive back looking at an open home for purchase, with no decision final. However, there was emphasis on Ramsey searching for a home in L.A. before his long-term deal is done.

While both sides still seem to be in the early stages, it will be interesting to see if any significant strides are made during the 2020 campaign.
