Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Michael Lorenzen is making his first start of the season for the Rangers in this game. It was originally going to be Cody Bradford, but he just hit the injured list with an injury, so he will be out for a few weeks. Lorenzen had a much better year in 2023, which is a good sign. He should be able to have a decent game in this one, as well. He is a good starter, but do not expect him to go deep in the game. However, if he can pitch a good game in his short time, the Rangers will win.

The Rangers are a solid team, and their offense is very good. They are batting just under .270 as a team, and their batting average is fourth-best in the MLB. Their OPS is fifth-best, as well. Texas has a great lineup, and they have the capability of putting up a lot of runs at any moment. If they can get hot in this game, the Rangers will win.

Why The Tigers Will Cover The Spread/Win

Detroit needs to match the Rangers on the mound. Reese Olson had an excellent first start against the New York Mets, but the Pittsburgh Pirates roughed him up a bit. Olson wants to induce contact and force hitters off the barrel. He will not get a lot of strikeouts. Texas is bottom-5 in the MLB in barrel percentage, and bottom-10 in average exit velocity. They are not hitting the ball hard right now, which will work in Olson's favor. As long as he does not throw too many meatballs, Olson could have the same type of game he had in his first start of the season.

As mentioned, Bradford really gets people to chase pitches out of the zone, which is why he is so good right now. Yes, the Tigers do struggle to hit the ball when they chase pitches. However, Detroit does not chase a lot of pitches. They are on the better half of the MLB when it comes to laying off pitches out of the zone. If they can make Bradford work, and lay off a majority of his pitches off the plate, the Tigers will win this game.

Final Rangers-Tigers Prediction & Pick

This is a tough game to predict. Both teams have started the season up and down. The Tigers started hot while the Rangers are winning and losing at an even pace. Nonetheless, they are both solid teams. I will be focusing on the pitching matchup for a winner in this one. With that said, I like Cody Bradford a bit better here. The Rangers moneyline will be my play.
