Could Lamar Jackson be the next star quarterback to receive a contract extension? Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh suggested as much.

Harbaugh said during his season-ending press conference he is “totally certain” the Ravens will get an extension done with Jackson, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Jackson appears to be next in the line of young, superstar quarterbacks to get a lucrative extension following Patrick Mahomes' record-breaking contract last year.

The 2019 NFL MVP was not quite as prolific as he had been last season, but Jackson still put up quality numbers. He completed over 64 percent of his passes for 2,757 yards and 26 touchdowns against nine interceptions. Jackson also rushed for over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season, leading the NFL with 6.3 yards per carry.

It is Lamar Jackson's explosive potential as a runner that makes Baltimore's offense so special. The Ravens routinely grind out yards on the ground, once again leading the NFL in rushing yards in 2020.

Baltimore can feel comfortable with Jackson anchoring the offense, given his abilities and proven track record as the Ravens' starter. He is 30-7 under center and earned the first playoff win of his career after a Wild Card victory over the Tennessee Titans, though his season ended in unfortunate fashion with a concussion in a loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Just how much Jackson receives remains to be seen. It is unlikely he approaches Mahomes' number in guaranteed money ($503 million), but could at least come somewhat close in terms of annual average value.

John Harbaugh seems to be throwing his full support behind a Lamar Jackson extension. The next step would figure to be adding another impact receiver in the passing game.
