Baltimore Ravens rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson is proving to be a fast learner. In a matter of just a few practices, the first-rounder has already made a big jump in two key quarterback duties, according to head coach John Harbaugh.

“I would say he’s made a big jump in calling the plays and annunciating the offense,” Harbaugh said per Ryan Mink of the team’s official website. “He’s done well with that.”

Jackson is just now getting to learn how to navigate that part of quarterback play. He never had to do it in college as his coaches in Louisville called the plays from the sideline. But it appears Jackson has not taken long to get comfortable in the huddle.

This isn’t the first time Harbaugh has given props to the rookie this offseason. He also came away impressed by Jackson’s accuracy during rookie camp.

It certainly is encouraging to hear how quickly Jackson seems to be progressing in such a short amount of time. The fact that he still had so much to learn about the quarterback position was likely a factor why he dropped to the end of the first round despite his undeniable talent. But he’s showing with his improved playcalling that he can pick things up in a hurry.

This ability to improve bodes well for the Ravens’ plans to get him involved in the team’s offense immediately this season. It also bodes well for Jackson’s prospects as the Ravens’ potential long-term successor to Joe Flacco at quarterback.
