The Baltimore Ravens superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson has hit a setback to kick off training camp. After missing some time due to COVID-19 last year, it seems Jackson is dealing with medical issues from the virus, per Ian Rapoport.

It's unknown how much time Lamar Jackson will miss, or what exactly is holding him back. He clearly did not contract the virus again, so there is reason to believe his issue is stemming from his original contraction of COVID-19 from last year. Medical doctors and scientists are still studying the long-term effects of the virus, as new information is released often.

Even so, the Ravens will begin training camp without their starting quarterback. With a plethora of new receivers on the roster, this could force Baltimore into a slow start at the beginning of the season, specifically in the passing game. With guys like Sammy Watkins and Rashod Bateman on the roster, Jackson needs to build chemistry with his new weapons.

Luckily for Baltimore, they're a run-first team anyway. Jackson plays an integral part of the Ravens' offense, so the coaching staff will be eager to have him back. With that said, the Ravens have a stacked roster, so even if Lamar Jackson misses some time, Baltimore should be able to remain competitive until his return. He's an elite athlete the Ravens need if they hope to win the Super Bowl, so the team will take every measure needed to ensure a safe return.

This is tough news for a Ravens team that plays in a tough AFC North division. With two of their division rivals being playoff contenders, Jackson missing time in training camp could give the Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers the edge they need over Baltimore. However, it's quite early though, as the season doesn't begin until early September. The Ravens have plenty of time for Jackson to get back on track.
