Mark Ingram has been one of the NFL's more consistent running backs. He gave the New Orleans Saints plenty of quality years as the team's first-choice running back. However, he now comes to the Baltimore Ravens on the back of his worst statistical season since 2013.

Critics, analysts, and fans believe that 29 is the age where many running backs decline in athleticism and performance. They expect Ingram to experience the same decline.

However, he was quick to dismiss those negative talks. He believes that he still has plenty to offer for the Ravens and help them make a playoff run. He talked to ESPN's Jamison Hensley about his condition:

“People say what they want. I don’t feel like you can put an age on somebody,” Ingram said. “Adrian Peterson is 34. He just ran for 1,200 [yards]. So say what you want, I think it’s up to each person. I feel like my best football is still ahead of me.”

Moreover, the team also believes that the former Alabama stalwart can thrive in Baltimore. They have gone through a number of running backs since parting ways with Ray Rice in 2014.

“He’s a proven back in the National Football League,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “He seems very healthy. [There is] not a lot of wear and tear on Mark. He’s a downhill, physical runner. He fits our style.”

Ingram has taken care of himself and is still in top condition. There is a good chance that he will become the fifth player to gain 1000 yards at 29 or older. He will join elite company in Peterson and Frank Gore if he manages to achieve that.
