The Washington Redskins are allowing Trent Williams to find a trade partner, but the team would like to keep the rest of their offensive line intact. As free agency is rapidly approaching, Washington wants to bring back Ereck Flowers and Brandon Scherff.

Of the two, bringing back Scherff shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone in the D.C. area. However, trying to retain Flowers could startle some people that didn't pay close attention to his growth in 2019.

Flowers began his career as the No. 9 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. Coming out of Miami, Flowers was presumed to be a surefire selection by some. On the contrary, the Giants would attempt to play him at left and right tackle to see if he could pan out.

Then, not even halfway into his fourth season in New York, Flowers was released and signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars, like the Giants, chose to start Flowers at left tackle for the rest of the season.

But after seeing him fail at the tackle positions, the Redskins took a flier on Flowers and moved him to guard this past season. After a shaky start, the former first-round pick began to get acclimated at his new position, starting in all 16 games for Washington in 2019.

In recent weeks, there have been reports that the Redskins could use their franchise tag on Scherff if they are unable to come to terms on a contract. Regardless of how they plan on making it happen, Washington has its sights set on keeping Flowers and Scherff together.
