Dwayne Haskins' first throw in the NFL certainly won't quiet calls for him to be the Washington Redskins' starter this season. On his debut snap early in the second quarter of Washington's preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night, Haskins rolled to his right after play-action and hit wide receiver Darvin Kidsy in near-perfect stride down the sideline for a 27-yard gain.

Haskins, the No. 15 overall pick in this year's draft, entered Thursday's action second on the depth chart behind journeyman Case Keenum, who was acquired in a trade with the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason. He would have been third in the Redskins' quarterback pecking order on Thursday if veteran Colt McCoy, currently listed as the starter, hadn't been held out of play for precautionary measures following a broken leg that prematurely ended his 2018 season.

The Ohio State product stressed after his selection that he would use frustration gleaned from the draft as motivation, and has endeared himself to Washington's players and coaching staff with both his talent level and overall approach during the offseason, despite normal inconsistencies that could be expected from a first-year quarterback.
Haskins threw for 50 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and 4,831 yards while completing a whopping 70 percent of his passes as a first-year starter in 2018, leading the Buckeyes to the Big 10 championship.
