Rob Font had the opportunity to step in and take Aljamain Sterling's place against Petr Yan at UFC 267. Unfortunately, the UFC bantamweight contender wasn't in a good position to take the bout.

Rob Font would have been fighting Petr Yan last week for the interim UFC bantamweight title. It was a frustrating situation for him, getting the call you wait for your whole career for and not being able to accept it. He spoke about the subject with MMA journalist James Lynch for MiddleEasy a few months ago before sitting down with ClutchPoints.

“Yeah, it was frustrating but it just wasn't meant to be,” Rob Font told ClutchPoints. “I was just dealing with too much at the time. It would have been rushed. It wasn't meant to be. I'm sure my time will come. Especially after this fight.”

“This fight” in question for the UFC bantamweight is legendary former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo. Rob Font was given the call for the main event on December 4.

It was still a difficult situation going from a UFC title shot to a regular fight. Fighting a former champion and current legend made it a lot easier though.

“Hell yeah, man! That's Jose Aldo man! This is a big fight. This is, if not, just as dangerous as any of those two fighters would have been. So yeah, I'm excited. It's going to be another one of those fun and entertaining fights. I just can't wait.”

The fight will most likely help determine who is next to face the winner of Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan in early 2022. The UFC's bantamweight division has been a mess for almost a year now.

Rob Font will be looking to cement his place as a UFC title contender against Jose Aldo on December 4.
