Running back Rashaad Penny left the Seattle Seahawks' loss to the Los Angeles Rams on “Sunday Night Football” early with a knee injury.

Post-game, his head coach Pete Carroll announced that he suffered an ACL sprain in his left knee, according to Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News TribuneThe injury is considered “significant,” as Carroll said.

The injury likely means that he is out for at least the next two weeks, where the Seahawks' schedule gets a bit easier, facing the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in back-to-back games. They will close their season against the 11-2 San Francisco 49ers, which could decide the division, and subsequently, a seed in the playoffs.

Penny went down on the Seahawks' opening drive of the night. He fell to the turf in obvious pain on a 16-yard screen reception and scamper. Seattle's training staff labeled him as questionable before officially ruling him out for the rest of the eventual loss.

Penny, the No. 27 pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, had started to come on as a dynamic threat for the Seahawks. He had 65 rush attempts for 370 yards and three touchdowns before the game. He had a touchdown in each of the last two games, wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings.

With Penny expected to miss time, the Seahawks will have to rely on starter Chris Carson to take the bulk of the workload on the ground. The former seventh-round pick has led Seattle in rushing in back-to-back years. On Sunday, he took 15 attempts for 76 yards.
