At one point the Seattle Seahawks looked like they would join the New England Patriots as the next NFL dynasty but it has quickly derailed the last few seasons, and according to some current and former players it's because of one guy, Russell Wilson.

In an article in Sports Illustrated written by Greg Bishop and Robert Klemko, they talked to sources that know the Seahawks internal and a big reason for the falloff is because there are players who support Wilson and some who don't, and it has caused issues.

A dozen sources with direct knowledge of the Seahawks’ internal dynamics who spoke to Sports Illustrated this summer also pointed to a locker room they contend had fractured last season, with private spats spilling into public view and a rift deepening between those who supported Wilson and those who felt the coaches held him to a different standard. The overhaul, those sources maintain, was a direct result of that dissension. It was the management in Seattle deciding to “take the power back,” according to two departed Seahawks, with that notion confirmed by three other current or former players.

According to some sources, Seahawks general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll felt the pressure, and it is a big reason they decided to release Richard Sherman and make some of the other changes they did this offseason.

The trouble for the Seahawks started in 2014 when Sherman picked Wilson during practice and yelled some expletives at him. Afterwords Carroll called the players over and told the team that they needed to treat Wilson more gently than they would some of the other teammates.

That started the rift with some players thinking Wilson was treated differently and ultimately is what led to the Seahawks defense breaking up.
