Everything hasn't been the same since Robert Downey's Tony Stark made that snap to bring everyone back in Avengers: Endgame. For starters, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dramatically changed from what it was more than a decade ago. And while things are looking bright for the MCU, the well-loved actor has not been that visible for quite some time. The thing is, there's a chance he can come back as rumors of HBO's Sherlock Holmes TV universe is circulating around.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO is currently developing a Sherlock Homes series for television with Downey attached to the project. It has not yet known whether the Iron Man actor will reprise his role as the beloved detective or just work behind the scenes as a producer.

Way back in 2009, Downey starred in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes film alongside Jude Law as Doctor John Watson. For this rumored project, Team Downey's Lionel Wigram Susan Downey, and Amanda Burrell will serve as executive producers alongside the Iron Man star.

Downey's involvement is fanning the flames of a Sherlock Holmes shared universe on the small screen. This isn't surprising because of the current landscape of the streaming wars, one where unique content is the key to drawing more subscribers in. With the prospect of Sherlock Holmes creating a brand new one for HBO, there's a pretty good chance it can elevate the company against its competitors, most notably Netflix.

As it stands, HBO is already home to several DC shows, such as Peacemaker and the upcoming Penguin spin-off from The Batman, and House of the Dragon, which will premiere this year. For his part, Downey has produced Perry Mason and For Your Own Good for HBO and Sweet Tooth for Netflix. It remains to be seen what kind of tone or themes these Sherlock Holmes series will go for once production begins.
