Revealed in the Genshin Impact version 2.3 special program livestream, Gorou finally arrives as a playable character, and will appear in Arataki Itto’s banner. Looking at the previews, Gorou seems to be the premier Geo support, and players looking to play Geo comps would really like to pull for our lovable canine general.

Why You Should Pull for Gorou

Gorou is a 4-star bow-wielding Geo character, who specializes in supporting full Geo teams. His Elemental Skill provides buffs depending on how many Geo characters there are in the party. Because of this, he’s pretty much the cornerstone of every Geo team starting this patch, and pulling for him is definitely a no-brainer. His Elemental Burst works the same way as his Skill, but additionally deals periodic Geo damage to foes within its AoE. This mechanic allows him to make use of the new artifact set, the Husk of Opulent Dreams.

There’s also one important thing regarding Gorou: it’s recommended to pull for Gorou until you get his fourth constellation. Gorou’s C4 provides great healing, which mono Geo teams severely lack. This is even more relevant in the Inazuma region, where Corrosion damage goes through the shields that Geo characters create. Noelle might also provide healing, but she’s dead weight for a support since she cannot generate Geo Energy particles.

Why you should skip pulling for Gorou

Gorou might be an amazing support for Geo teams, but he’s somewhat useless in all other compositions. His banner does not benefit non-Geo teams, since DEF is not a useful stat outside of Geo characters. His Burst might be possible as a sub-DPS option, but the uptime is quite low and can be replaced by stronger options, like Xiangling.

If you don’t have a decent Geo team, or are not planning to play Geo teams in the future, Gorou is an easy skip.

General Gorou arrives in Genshin Impact version 2.3 through the Oni's Royale Character Event Wish Banner. This banner will run from December 14, 2021, until January 4, 2022.
