The Philadelphia 76ers are on their way to their fifth playoff run in a row. Joel Embiid will attempt to lead his team to victory, starting with their first-round series against the Toronto Raptors.

While he's steadfast in winning this year's NBA title, Embiid has another honor on his mind: the regular-season MVP award. The Sixers center is neck-in-neck with Denver Nuggets' Nikola Jokic and Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo.

His teammate, Sixers power forward Georges Niang, joined “First Time, Long Time,” a Philadelphia sports podcast ahead of the Sixers' playoff run. During his interview, Niang discussed Embiid's run for MVP and bashed those relying on statistics to determine the winner.

Barstool Philly tweeted a clip of his interview Wednesday morning.

Only looking at numbers and statistics, Jokic has a clear case for the MVP title. However, as Niang mentioned, Embiid's value on the Sixers goes much farther than stats.

“[If] Joel doesn't win MVP I'm gonna snap. Whatever some nerdy statistician wants to pull out of his ass… f*ck outta here,” Niang said, coming in heavy. “He's [Embiid] gotta be the MVP this year, especially what he's doing this year. We've had so much drama around the team and the fact that he can be a leader through all that and still dominate at a high level for 82 games, I think that says something.”

Niang isn't the first player to pledge allegiance to Embiid as this year's MVP. Philadelphia teammate James Harden recently claimed Embiid as his pick for the title, along with Brooklyn Nets' star Kevin Durant.
