The Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards squared off Sunday night. The game was not very close, as the Sixers hammered the Wizards 117-96. With the win, the Sixers moved back above .500 to 17-16 on the season. That ties them with Washington in the Eastern Conference standings.
However, as the game got away from the Wizards, things began to get a little physical.
Late in the 3rd quarter with the Sixers leading 80-64, Joel Embiid and Montrezl Harrell got into an altercation and had to be separated.
Embiid caught the ball 25 feet from the basket and attempted to face up. While doing so, he bumped Harrell to the ground. Harrell immediately got up and as Embiid tried getting to the rack, Harrell fouled him hard and locked him up.
The two players then grabbed and held each others shoulders up near the neck. They had to be pulled apart from one another by their teammates.
The referees ruled it as a double technical, with each player receiving a technical foul. Embiid then went on to sink both free throws for the common foul that was also whistled.
Embiid and the Sixers got the last laugh. He finished the game with 36 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. Embiid was extremely efficient shooting the ball, going 12 for 17 from the field.
In the loss, Harrell finished with 15 points. Harrell is in the running for 6th Man of the Year honors for the Washington Wizards. He is averaging almost 15 points and over seven rebounds per game off the bench.
