The Chicago Sky take on the New York Liberty. Check out our WNBA odds series for our Sky Liberty prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sky Liberty.

The Chicago Sky are a mystery for the simple reason that they haven't played many games in the WNBA regular season. Chicago's last game was on May 18, and the Sky haven't played a single home game yet. (The Minnesota Lynx, like the Sky, have played only two games against one opponent so far this season, but the Lynx at least played one of those two games at home. The Sky have not.) Just how much can one learn from two road games against the Dallas Wings? It's hard to say. We will learn a lot more about Chicago in the coming days, when the team plays a lot more games and begins to test itself against the rest of the league.

If the Sky are mysterious, the New York Liberty are less of a puzzle. The Liberty, last season's WNBA runner-up, are 4-0 so far this season. Let's be clear: New York isn't dominating its opponents. The Liberty have failed to cover a few spreads so far this season. However, it's not as though the Liberty are barely getting by. They handled the Indiana Fever by 11 points a few days ago and then beat the Seattle Storm by the same 11-point margin. In neither of those games did the Liberty cover the spread — the 11-point win over Seattle was a push — but New York was never seriously threatened. This team isn't consistently covering spreads, but it is still winning with a solid working margin. Given the quality and veteran experience on this team, it's reasonable for the Liberty to pace themselves and not strain too hard. Moreover, with the Las Vegas Aces being shorthanded and not playing that great, the Liberty clearly look like the best team in the league through a week and a half of play.

Why The Sky Could Cover The Spread

The spread is very large, and as we noted above, the New York Liberty have not consistently covered spreads this season, despite winning multiple games by double-digit margins. New York has covered just one of four spreads this season. The Liberty are doing enough to win, but they aren't blowing the doors off opponents on most occasions. New York's offense is not humming with elite efficiency. The Liberty scored just 74 points in their recent win over the Seattle Storm. They scored just nine points in the second quarter of that game and only 14 in the fourth quarter. If the Liberty continue to have at least two bad offensive quarters in a game, they're not going to cover 15.5-point spreads.

Why The Liberty Could Cover The Spread

The Liberty are a good team right now. At some point, one would think this team will improve and become legitimately great. It has the players. It has the balance and diversity on offense. This team has no good reason to produce nine- or 14-point quarters. This team should be able to get better, in which case it will finally start covering fat spreads such as 15.5 points.

Final Sky-Liberty Prediction & Pick

The Liberty are good enough to win comfortably but not strong enough to easily cover the spread. Stay away from this game.

Final Sky-Liberty Prediction & Pick: Liberty -15.5
